MEET THE DUSTY DECO TEAM

We had a quick chat with Edin & Lina Kjellvertz, the founders and designers of the eclectic vintage store DUSTY DECO, which can be found in Stockholm and on the island of Mallorca.

How did you come up with the Dusty Deco name and what does it stand for?
We were both working in fashion at that moment and both loved vintage furniture and flea markets. So one evening in our friends garden in Barcelona, we shared a bottle of wine and did some brainstorming. That same morning we had been at the vintage Mercat dels Encants in Barcelona and in the evening, when we were listening to Dusty Springfield, the name was created.

What services are you offering?
We have a showroom in Palma offering both; a vintage selection and arts but mostly exhibiting our own range of furniture and rugs. For 3 years we have been doing our own collection based on all the vintage goodies that passed our hands during the years.

Where are you getting the inspiration from?
Oh, it could be everywhere! When writing this, we are in Seville and we see great shapes for ceramic everywhere. This city is so much fun when it comes to tiles and ceramic so I'm sure we will bring some inspiration home and make some Sevilla vases and lamps after this trip!

Which is your best selling item at the moment?
The rugs are favourites among our customers. We think it's an easy way to complete a room, make it cosier and more fully decorated, it's a simple way to get the aha feeling. But the Lola sofa, arco chair and the ceramic has also been successful. It's so much fun to see our "babies" in people's homes and see how you style it and make it yours, it's the most fun part!

Who is your favourite artist or designer?
Oh! Great question! Edin, my husband, is more high-end and loves both; classics like Pierre Jeanneret and finds inspiration in the old fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent's Marrakech home and Dries van Notens house (I strongly recommend googling them!), while I get more inspiration from films like all of Almodóvars movies and Wes Andersons, great sets and beautiful interiors to go with the curious stories both these filmmakers tell, that makes me want to re-paint at home and hang even more art on our walls!

What is THE advice from you to all homeowners when styling their home?
Add more lamps and more textiles! With rugs, curtains and upholstered furniture you make a softer impact, and with many light sources you can play with the light depending on the hours and get a welcoming feeling at home. Oh and art! Don't be afraid to try and mix!

What is your favourite place in Mallorca and why?
We love Portocolom; the beach outside with the view of the small colourful fishermans houses and the small square in the old part of town, it's just very calm and cute.
